The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 signed into law on February 17, 2009 makes significant changes to continuation coverage available to individuals who lose group health plan coverage as a result of involuntary termination. While the federal law refers to this coverage as “COBRA coverage,” the law’s changes also apply to coverage under state continuation coverage laws for employers with fewer than 20 employees. In the associated document is a summary of the law’s new provisions. We will continue to update clients as we receive additional guidance from the federal government.
